29.5"x86"x1.75a Antique Exterior/Interior Door w/Full-length Window. Antique door salvaged from an old row house in Harlem, NY. The door has a solid oak core covered with 3/16 thick birch veneers on one side and.
3/16 thick oak veneers on the other. It has a single, window on both sides. Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are very thick and provide strength and stability to the door.
This door could be refinished many times without sanding down to the core wood. Although the door was used as an interior door, it's thick and strong enough for exterior use. Hardware : The door is not equipped with any hardware. Quirks & Considerations : It looks like someone intended to cut the door to an even 85 5/8, but didn't follow through.
As a result, a portion the stiles is missing. The width of the door was also unevenly cut by 1/4 at some point, most likely to compensate for the home's settling foundation or a warped floor. The door was originally set up to swing into a room towards the right, but someone plugged all of the hardware holes and drilled new ones to make the door swing in and to the left. They did a good job, but the patches are noticeable. They will be invisible if painted, and slightly noticeable if stained (the darker the stain, the less noticeable).
The door originally had a wooden panel, instead of a window. You could still see some of the panel in the last 3 photos. Condition : The door is in great condition and only has the typical nicks, scrapes, and scratches that you would expect to find on an old, used door. However, once the door is sanded for a new coat of paint, or stripped to refinish, most of these blemishes will be removed by sanding. What remains will be covered by paint or stain, and only appear as subtle character marks.
We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. Swing : The door is currently set up to swing into a room towards the left, or away from the room towards the right. Modification : We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace panels with glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc.
29 3/8 " - 29 5/8 " W x 85 5/8 " - 86 1/2 " H x 1 3/4 " D (window = 18 1/2 "x71). Too tall, short, wide or narrow?
MD, DC, DE, PA, NJ, NY, & New England : We deliver to these states every 2 - 3 weeks. Close ups of the patched & plugged hardware holes.
Close up of the unevenly cut top. This door has plenty of life left! Look at an example of a door that we repaired and a customer refinished.
